Bags and Sand are now Available For Residents In Unincorporated Areas

November 1, 2023 – Today, the Sacramento County Department of Water Resources (DWR) has opened three sandbag locations for residents in the unincorporated areas. Residents who believe their property will be in danger of potential flooding due to heavy rains in their area are encouraged to get sandbags now before rain falls. If they have sandbags from last winter, residents should replace the old ones with newer bags due to deterioration.

The Rio Linda location has moved from Westside Park to Sac Metro Fire Station #116. This new location is expected to offer easier access to residents in the area.

Sacramento County supplies the sand and bags, but residents will need to bring a shovel.

There is a 20-bag limit per visit. Residents not living in the unincorporated areas of the County will need to check with their cities for sandbag information. The public can visit www.stormready.org for more information on locations and other flood-related topics.

Before the rain falls, residents are also encouraged to clear storm drains of debris to reduce the chance for street flooding. During the storm, residents living near creeks and streams can use the County ALERT system to monitor rising streams in the unincorporated areas at https://sacflood.org/home.php.

Other sandbag sites are located at Branch Center (3847 Branch Center Rd.), and the Orangevale Community Center (6826 Hazel Ave.)
