Officer Involved in Fatal Collision at Watt and Elverta

At approximately 2 am, a deputy with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department was on duty, driving a fully marked patrol vehicle northbound on Watt Avenue at Elverta Road.

A 19-year-old male was driving a 2003 Mazda 3 with three passengers, westbound on Elverta Road. The Mazda collided with the right side of the Sheriff’s patrol vehicle in the intersection. The driver of the Mazda was unrestrained and was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to the hospital and pronounced deceased at 6:07 am.

The deputy was transported with minor injuries.

The three passengers in the Mazda were also unrestrained and transported with injuries ranging from minor to major. Drugs and alcohol are not suspected.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.
