Sac Metro Fire Arson investigators are looking for a man suspected of setting fires in the Rio Linda and North Highlands areas.
The man that authorities are looking for is an arson registrant. This means he’s done this before, and he’s been convicted.
Per Metro Fire Investigator Chris Rogers, He’s set multiple shopping carts on fire by filling them with combustible materials such as cardboard, papers, and plastic, and has set multiple shopping carts on fire within a two-block radius in the area of Rio Linda Boulevard and Elkhorn Boulevard.
One such shopping cart fire was set at the Rite Aid pharmacy on Rio Linda Boulevard in Early April.
A primary concern for authorities are fires intentionally set inside businesses.
Rogers says “Somebody is setting a fire as a distraction so that they can commit other crimes such as retail theft.”
According to Fox40 News, there have been several incidents within the last year, with one taking place in the last week. For example, surveillance video from a local Target store caught suspects in the act of setting a fire in the store. While Target employees were distracted and focusing on extinguishing the fire, thieves walk out of the store with stolen goods.
At 10:35 am on April 29th, Metro Fire responded to a structure fire at the Jack-In-The-box on Madison Avenue near the Target store. Crews found a trash can burning in the restroom. The person in the photo is a person of interest who is believed to be homeless.
