SMF Seeking Friendly Volunteers to Greet Travelers

The Sacramento International Airport (SMF) is seeking friendly and outgoing individuals to join their Ambassador Program, which aims to provide a warm welcome to visitors and help them navigate the airport’s many services. As the gateway to Northern California, the airport serves millions of passengers a year, and a friendly and positive experience can make all the difference in encouraging visitors to return.

Airport Ambassadors are asked to commit to at least two four-hour shifts per month, with multiple shifts available each day at the information desks and additional roving shifts on weekdays. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, enjoy customer service, and have strong communication skills. Ambassadors should be knowledgeable about the Sacramento region and have basic computer and internet use skills but don’t worry if you’re not an expert just yet, as the program provides training and support.

Duties include greeting travelers and convention delegates, helping people find airport services, answering questions about flight schedules, and providing information about Sacramento’s many attractions and hotels. Ambassadors also distribute Sacramento Visitors Guides and assist people in distress, creating an overall positive experience for airport guests.

The benefits of becoming an Airport Ambassador are numerous, including appreciation events, free Airport Ambassador shirts, and concession discounts. Plus, volunteers gain first-hand knowledge about the Sacramento County Department of Airports and get to work alongside other friendly staff.

Barbara Tustin, the Ambassador Program Coordinator at SMF, says that being a part of the program is very rewarding and that she loves seeing the positive impact that ambassadors can have on travelers. “Our ambassadors are the first faces that people see when they arrive at SMF,” she says. “They have the opportunity to make a great first impression and help visitors feel welcome. Plus, volunteering at SMF is a great way to meet new people, learn new skills, and give back to the community.”

Current ambassadors agree that the program is a great way to get involved and have fun while doing good. Ambassador Dave King says, “I find it rewarding to assist our travelers. I also find that within the staff there is a lot of help available”.

Ambassador Brandie Bartholomew adds, “As an Ambassador for Sacramento International Airport, I engage with people who may be experiencing the happiest day of their life or one of the saddest days of their life. It’s my responsibility to ensure they have all of the information and resources required for their departure or arrival. It is essential for me to build trust among our customers and provide them with up-to-date information with a positive can-do attitude. As a frequent customer of Sacramento International, I enjoy bringing awareness and being an information source for our customers!”
