The National Weather Service is forecasting some rivers and streams in Sacramento County may reach flood stage due to the incoming storm. The Sacramento County Department of Water Resources (DWR) wants to remind residents in the unincorporated areas there are four sandbag locations open, including our local location at Westside Park (6555 West 2nd St.).
Three locations have been open since November and are for residents who believe their property will be in danger from the heavy rains resulting in flooding. On Thursday morning, DWR staff dropped sand off at the Wilton Fire Station.

- Orangevale Community Center (6826 Hazel Ave.)
- Westside Park (6555 West 2nd St.)
- Wilton Fire Station (10661 Alta Mesa Road)
If more heavy rain arrives in the area, and the threat of additional flooding grows, more sandbag locations may be opened to deal with the issue.
Sacramento County supplies the sand and bags, but residents will need to bring a shovel. There is a 20-bag limit per visit. Residents not living in the unincorporated areas of the County will need to check with their city public works departments for sandbag information. The public can visit www.stormready.org for more information on locations and other flood-related topics.
Before the rain falls, residents are also encouraged to clear storm drains of debris to reduce the chance for street flooding. During the storm, residents living near creeks and streams can use the County ALERT system to monitor rising streams in the unincorporated areas.
