Rio Linda Military Mom Brings Holiday Cheer to South Carolina Sailors

Karrie Anderson

Goose Creek, SC – Karrie Anderson, a dedicated military mom, has once again spread holiday cheer to young service members stationed in Goose Creek, South Carolina.

Anderson, whose son Adam served at the Naval Nuclear Power Training Command, understands the challenges faced by these young sailors who are far from home during the holidays. In 2021, she took it upon herself to cook a Thanksgiving feast for her son and his fellow sailors.

The heartwarming gesture resonated with the young men, and Anderson realized she had found her calling. She founded the nonprofit organization Bluebirds Take Flight to continue providing support and comfort to military members and their families.

This year, Anderson and her team hosted a Thanksgiving feast for over 70 service members. They’ve transformed a local home into a festive gathering place, offering home-cooked meals, camaraderie, and a sense of belonging.

“It’s about providing a warm, inviting space for these young sailors to feel at home, even when they’re far from their families,” Anderson said. “We’re grateful for the support of the community, which has made this event possible.”

For many of the service members, this Thanksgiving gathering has become a cherished tradition. They appreciate the opportunity to connect with fellow sailors and enjoy a delicious meal, all thanks to the generosity of Anderson and her team.
