Following a fatal shooting on Sunday afternoon, sheriff’s detectives have apprehended a suspect, as confirmed by authorities.
While California Highway Patrol officers were attending to a separate traffic matter near 8th and U streets around 3 p.m., they heard the sound of several gunshots, according to Sgt. Amar Gandhi of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
Upon arrival at the scene, deputies discovered a 43-year-old man in a home’s driveway, suffering from multiple gunshot injuries. Emergency fire services were summoned and declared the man deceased at the location. In connection with the fatal incident, detectives have taken one person into custody on homicide suspicion.
Two individuals found inside the home were taken in for questioning. It remains uncertain if the arrested homicide suspect was one of these detainees.
Sgt. Gandhi noted that the investigation is still in its preliminary phase. However, initial assessments suggest that the tragic event might have stemmed from a domestic disagreement.
The identity of the deceased will be disclosed by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office once the next of kin have been notified.
